Would you enjoy a tour of India's Great Mughals: Art, Power and Opulence exhibit now on view at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts?

Terry Morgerson is offering a private tour for Council members.

Immerse yourself in the golden age of the Mughal Empire. India's Great Mughals: Art, Power, and Opulence celebrates the glorious artistic achievements and grandeur of one of history's great empires.

India's Great Mughals includes 200 sumptuous objects—intricate paintings and manuscripts, lavish textiles, architectural elements, metalwork, furniture, arms and armor, dazzling precious stones, and more. Opulent works of art—many made in the imperial workshops—convey the power and tastes of the three most celebrated Mughal emperors: Akbar (r. 1556–1605), Jahangir (r. 1605–27), and Shah Jahan (r. 1628–58). From the tiniest jeweled objects to the monumental wonder of the Taj Mahal, this highly sophisticated and globally connected empire produced treasures of unparalleled splendor and magnificence.

Tours are limited to 12 and there is no charge.

Please meet 10 minutes before your tour at the Hirschler Flowers in the Atrium.

Please only sign up for one date as the tours will be the same on June 10th, June 12th, and July 22nd.

This monthly Museum History Tour is offered to all new and existing Council members.

As the Council Museum History Guides walk you through the museum, you will hear facts and stories about the VMFA’s founding, buildings, grounds, and donors (past and present). We will share up to date information about upcoming gallery closures and plans for the building expansion.

The 50-60 minute tour is an exceptional opportunity to enhance your knowledge of VMFA and better help you assist and guide our VMFA visitors. After all, Council volunteers are the first and main contact with VMFA guests!

The tour is eligible for 1-hour of VicNet service time. Please don't forget to log your time after the tour.

Number of participants: 20

Fee: free of charge, Council members only.

Future summer tours will be organized on the second Wednesday of the month.

Note: If you have already taken this tour recently you do not need to repeat it.
